Struggling to find the right foundation for your acne-prone skin? We round up the best foundations to heal your skin and provide great coverage at the same time.

Choosing makeup for acne-prone skin types can be confusing and challenging at the same time. Are you choosing the right foundation to suit your skin type or is the product contributing more to your breakouts?

Old wives’ tales claim that covering your blemishes with makeup might cause them to be inflamed and result in more breakouts. Growing up, we were often told to leave the blemishes as they were and they would heal over time. Fortunately the beauty world has evolved to produce foundation that will not only provide great coverage but are formulated with ingredients to combat and heal your acne at the same time.

HOW TO APPLY FOUNDATION FOR ACNE-PRONE SKIN?

When applying foundation on skin with active breakouts or bumps, special attention needs to be paid to ensure that your overall look is not cakey. For starters, prep your skin by using an oil-free moisturizer and wait for 5-10 minutes till the product absorbs fully.

The key to makeup for acne-prone skin is to keep it light. Using your clean fingers or a flat concealer brush, spot conceal the blemishes and bumps first. Apply a light layer of foundation all over the face and buff it into your skin without applying too much pressure. To avoid streak marks, use your ring finger to blend any uneven spots. For stubborn spots which are still peeking through the foundation, allow the initial layer to set first before going in with a liquid concealer to hide the bump. Once you have applied the concealer, set the area with powder to ensure that the product does not budge. We would recommend using a translucent setting powder to dust on your whole face but avoid touching the blemish prone areas to prevent an aggravation from occurring.
