10 Acne treatments that work immediately

Have an important event to go to tomorrow but just broke out from the stress? Here’s how you can prep your skin for a better skin day ahead.

Acne is something many of us face despite having left behind our puberty days for many, many years. As much as we’d like to think that our skin can be perfect, the reality is that every now and then, a pimple will pop up unannounced and have us wishing it will disappear as soon as it arrives.

The triggers could be anything from dehydration to constant exposure to humidity (thus encouraging the production of sweat and potentially clogging pores) and even diet. The trick to successfully ridding your skin of these pesky blemishes and returning to a good skin day is knowing your own skin type and recognising what sends your face into a bout of acne.

Since everyone’s skin is different, the way acne treatments work on some may not work on others. However, we’ve devised a fool-proof evening routine you can try out (and incorporate your acne cream, serum or gel of choice) to wake up the following morning with glowing, blemish-free skin.

STEP 1: CLEANSE

Splash your face with warm water in order to open your pores and then cleanse with your preferred cleanser. This won’t immediately clean out the pimples on your face, but it will get rid of any impurities and dirt that have accumulated on your skin throughout the day.

STEP 2: TONE

Prep your skin for the next step by wiping on some toner or patting it into the skin. This further disinfects your pores while making it an absorbent surface for any product you place on your skin afterwards.

STEP 3: MASK

Your mask will then be able to work its best magic now that you’ve toned your skin. Clay masks help to detoxify and absorb any unwanted impurities that are still on the skin, while a calming mask that has ingredients like dead sea salt, aloe vera or cucumber will soothe the skin of any redness.

STEP 4: MOISTURISE AND TREAT

Give your skin its much-needed moisture no matter your skin type, as pimples form when the skin is forced to produce more oil than it should in order to compensate for a dry complexion. Once you’ve patted and smoothed in your moisturiser, spot-treat your blemishes with an acne treatment and leave them to sit overnight. You should then wake up with noticeably smaller spots that will then be easier to work with.
