Facial and lip scrubs are common, but are you diligent in caring for your body? Learn how and when to exfoliate your body and discover our top picks.

While facial exfoliation is easily one of the most well-known skincare steps everyone adopts in their beauty routine, scrubbing away at the skin on our bodies isn’t quite as popular. Ironically, the largest organ on our bodies is often neglected and body scrubs are an underrated beauty product we should probably start investing in.

In a tropical climate like ours, the skin on our faces are more often than not oily and greasy from overproduction of sebum. The skin on the rest of our bodies don’t always act in the same way and the weather often has an adverse effect on it, causing it to be dry, flaky and rough. This is when body scrubs come into play. Give your body some much-needed TLC and you’ll see the difference in the way all your other products apply.

Exfoliating dead skin and rough patches away will not only give you a boost of radiance, but allow products such as moisturisers, tanning lotions and fragrances to absorb better and give a more lasting effect.

WHEN TO USE

Whip out your body scrub during a shower or bath weekly to get rid of dirt and dead skin build up. One of the best times to use is also right before shaving or waxing, so any ingrown hairs can surface and you’ll get right to the roots (excuse the pun) of the problem. Also consider exfoliating before you head to the beach or a pool party, not only so the sun will bounce off your supple skin, but also for a longer lasting tan.

HOW TO USE

Scoop or squeeze an amount as much as you would your body soap, onto your palm and lather onto the skin after rinsing off your body wash. Spend a good few minutes getting right into the little nooks and crannies that may have unknowingly collected any dirt and also allow the product to work into your pores as the hair follicles open up in the humidity of your bathroom. For a more effective scrub, use a loofah, body sponge or handheld body brush. Rinse off and follow up with a moisturiser right before bed and wake up to skin as smooth as a baby’s bottom.

Look through our top body scrub picks above to get your best glow. From the most fragrant, to the paraben-free and even body-firming options, you’re bound to find one just for you.
