Channel your inner bronzed goddess with our top 10 face and body self tanners!

If you’re looking to rock a gorgeous bronzed glow without worrying about sun damage, self tanners are your answer. We have all heard horror stories about bad self tanning jobs (streaky legs, orange face, dark creases…) but with the right product, and the right preparation, self tanning can be quick and painless!

How to apply self tanners:

Although daunting at first, after a little bit of practice (and patience) applying self tanners quickly becomes an easy process. We suggest removing any thick hair from the area before application to ensure a streak-free canvas. Start by exfoliating your skin in the shower, focusing on rough areas like your elbows and knees – this removes any dry flaky patches that will cause an uneven tan. Make sure your skin is dry before application, then use latex gloves or a tanning mitt (our personal favourite) to rub the tan into your skin in the desired area. Use a lotion to blend the tan into your ankles and wrists for a more natural look. Some tans may not show up instantly, so we suggest you wait at least an hour before putting on any clothing that you are worried will get stained. If you feel at all sticky, wait for an hour and then dab a small amount of baby powder on to your skin.

If you are using a spray tan, make sure you follow the directions as to how for away from your body you should hold the product. Try and get a friend or family member to help you apply the tan to those hard to reach areas like your back.

Our tip: Sometimes self tanning disasters are inevitable, especially if you are in a hurry. If you want to remove your tan in areas that came out too dark our streaky, simply dip some tissue in lemon juice and apply it to the area – wait for 20 minutes before you wash it off.
