How to adapt your beauty ritual for the heat?

We take some advice from Dominique Rist, Director of Training and Development of Clarins SPA care.

MAXIMUM HYDRATION

Upon waking up in the morning, take a glass of hot water followed by another mixed with lemon juice. For the rest of the day, prepare bottles of water with macerated mint or basil at room temperature, ideal to quench your thirst. If you’re going out on a humid night, have fewer drinks and rebalance your fluids the next day with plenty of water and fresh squeezed juices (avoid bottled or cartoned juices, they’re full of sugar!).

TARGET BODY CARE

The heat tends to swell the skin, as the body drains less. Start the day by using exfoliating cleansers that will clean, awaken and stimulate the skin so it enjoys the blessings of the heat. Opt for fresh textures and, if possible, special care for your legs with menthol or camphor. Don’t feel the need to burden yourself with multiple bottles if you go on holiday – just turn to your after-sun moisturizing balm for daily use.

THE PRO TRICK

Every morning, in preparation for the day or in the evening after a hot day, mix a dab of heavy-duty lotion carefully into your scrub to strengthen the venous system of your legs by creating a vasoconstriction (the narrowing of blood cells to reduce swelling).

CHANGE TEXTURE

For a fresh, clean face, choose a foaming cleanser and then apply toner. Abandon the heavy day cream for more comfort on the skin. Use gelled formulas if you have younger skin. Finally, protect your skin from UV rays with a suitable sun care that has good SPF.

GO EASY ON THE MAKEUP

Stop the headaches. Take advantage of the warm weather to relieve yourself of unnecessary layers of makeup: conceal, but don’t cover. It’s better to focus on using a light BB or CC cream rather than a foundation. Use brightness to your advantage and only disguise what is necessary with a concealer. Don’t use powder as it might look too heavy and sit on fine lines. With your fingertips, take some coral blush and dab onto the cheekbones and eyelids. For lips, opt for a satin texture or luxurious lip oils. Comfort guaranteed!
