Can’t find a primer to suit all your skin needs? Try ‘multi-priming’

updated the 5 April 2018 à 14:52

If you’ve a tried what feels like a million primers, and can’t find one that suits all your skin’s needs, this one’s for you.

Primers – some people swear by them; others don’t care too much for it.

Whichever beauty camp you fall under, one thing’s clear: finding that ‘holy grail’ primer that meets all your skin’s needs can be tricky.

The types of primers in the beauty aisle today are endless: mattifying, illuminating, pore-minimising, brightening, oil control, redness reduction – you name it. But if you’re human (just like the rest of us) and have skin with multiple – at times, conflicting – needs, sticking to one primer doesn’t quite do the trick.

Which is why as of late, we’ve been swearing by multi-priming.

What is Multi Priming & Why it Works

Multi-priming is essentially using different primers that address various skin concerns on targeted areas on your face. For instance, if you have oily skin but love a dewy complexion, you can use an oil-control primer on your T-Zone and an illuminating one on the high planes of your face.

This keeps your desired areas matte, and the ones you want highlighted glow-y. Genius, right? This also works for those with combination skin: applying a mattifying primer on your oil-prone areas, and a hydrating one elsewhere.

Or if colour-correction is a beauty concern for you, but find that strictly using a green- or orange-toned colour corrector all over your face doesn’t tackle the discolouration on different areas of your skin, target them using a specific colour corrector each! After all, whoever said you only had to use one primer?

It’s a simple hack, but some of the best-kept beauty tips are. In fact, having accidentally stumbled it upon it while experimenting with our makeup routine one day, we’re surprised it hasn’t caught on sooner. We also love that it spares you the need to toss out that new primer just because it doesn’t quite answer to all your skin concerns. Give it a go – and thank us later.
