Nothing seems worse than to feel makeup practically melting off your face. You might be enjoying a weekend at the beach, family day out at the park, or just any situation that forces you to leave the comfort of air-conditioning and into the sweltering heat. Just a few swipes of the hand to keep sweat out of your eyes and you realise you may have just wiped your foundation off…which isn’t exactly the best look.

Don’t fret though – some clever tricks are all you need to combat sunny days while still looking fresh. Just make sure you don’t forget the trusty sunscreen.

PUT ON ONLY WHAT YOU NEED

You really don’t have to put on a full face of foundation if your skin is clear, pimple or scar-free. Starting with your favourite primer, our tip is to go straight into a creamy, medium to full coverage concealer to hide imperfections only at the necessary spots. If you suffer from pigmentation issues, a lightweight BB cream or tinted moisturiser in your exact shade would be best to even out the skin tone without caking on too much product. The trick here is to let the skin breathe as much as possible.

‘WATERPROOF’ IS THE WAY TO GO

For brows, lashes and cheeks, choose products that won’t budge. Keep your eyebrows in check for hours on end with a brow wax or eye pencil, as the consistencies are more likely to stay on the skin despite high temperatures. Steer clear of powders, as they’ll run and are more prone to smudging when in contact with water or sweat. Comb through your lashes with waterproof mascara and pat on a cheek stain that’ll give you a healthy, long-lasting flush of colour.

THE REST IS UP TO YOU

Go with a lippy that suits your mood for the day paired with an SPF lip balm. If you can’t go without eyeliner, we suggest a gel one that won’t smudge. Skip the eyeshadow if comfort is of top priority, but if you’re the type to sport a smokey eye daily, make sure to have a good shadow base underneath.
