Isabelle Benoit, director of Esthederm Institute, shares her tricks to erase those dreaded expression lines.

Choosing the right formula

The area below the eye is subjected to numerous micro-muscle twitches. In some people, blinking, frowning or smiling causes a loss of elasticity and results in the appearance of lasting creases. To address these expression lines, choose an eye treatment that is formulated with hyaluronic acid, pro-collagen or pro-elastin.

Adopt the right method

Apply any eye product with care and do it dutifully every morning and evening using light touches, with your fingertips. Trace the bones of the eye socket by staying on the hard area and do not go close to the eyelids – where you can feel your eyeball.

Essentially, lightly massage from the inside to the outside of the face and finish with small pats that will boost microcirculation, prevent puffiness and eliminate toxins.

Limit external effects

The area under the eye is particularly thin and fragile and is continually exposed to environmental stresses. So it is vital to protect your eyes with sunglasses, especially in Singapore’s summer heat.
Additionally, be extra careful whenever you’re removing eye makeup. For example, avoid using cotton pads to tug at the eye area as it causes more friction and may remove more of the hydrolipidic film.

Additional tips

– Indulge in a weekly eye mask and choose one that is exceptionally nourishing. It’ll recharge the skin and hydrate it to help prevent lines caused by dehydration.
– Relieve muscle stress by performing eye exercises. Place your thumbs at the inner corner of the eye, flesh side up and press up towards the inner edge of the eyebrow. Hold for 10 seconds and repeat 3 times.
