The idea of travelling may be exciting, but the fact that getting to your destination in a plane cramped with other people for 10 hours or so may not thrill you very much.

Everyone agrees that long-haul flights are no fun, especially when it comes to personal grooming and staying fresh-faced throughout the journey, because let’s face it, those tiny restrooms in the airplane were not designed for preening and primping!

That’s not to say you can’t take care of your skin 30000 feet above ground. In-flight grooming might be tough but ignoring the cramped settings, the bad lighting and the snoring person next to you, it is possible to arrive at your destination with a grime-free, shine-free, glowing complexion.

Below are some jet-setting skincare tips to implement on your next long-haul flight.

TRY NOT TO WEAR MAKEUP

You’re going to be sitting on a 10 hour flight sharing the same oxygen with a few hundred other people –is it really worth slapping on foundation, lipstick and mascara? Your makeup will block your pores and be horribly cakey by the time you arrive and if not immediately, your skin will definitely have a breakout or two later on. Not worth it! Give your skin the space it needs to breathe in an already dehydrated environment.

PICK WATER BASED MAKEUP

If you insist on wearing makeup to look your selfie best 24/7, avoid the heavy stuff and opt for water-based products that sink in easily and get absorbed by your skin. So instead of foundation, go for a BB cream, choose gel-based cheek stains instead of powder blush. This way, your skin has space to breathe and your pores won’t get blocked.

NEVER SLEEP WITH MAKEUP ON

The beauty rules that apply on land apply in the air as well. Sleeping with your makeup on is a big no no. You won’t be able to do your full-on cleansing ritual on the plane so it’s best to have face wipes and makeup removers at hand.

KEEP SPRITZING!

Airplanes are notorious for sucking the moisture from your skin, leaving your epidermis feeling oily and grimy. Combat that by spritzing your face with a gentle facial mist. This will refresh your face and add hydration, something you can never get enough of on airplanes.

MOISTURisE

As mentioned, there’s something in the highly regulated dry cabin air that just wreaks havoc on our skin. Prevent external dehydration by slathering on the moisturizer to rebalance your skin’s oil production.  Face oils work to put the moisture back in your skin so your glands don’t go into overdrive to make up for the lack of hydration in the air.

STAY HYDRATED

When you’re dehydrated, your skin starts producing more oil to compensate for lack of moisture. Avoid getting shiny faced by drinking plenty of H20. Try to have at least eight ounces for every hour you’re up in the air.
