Korean brands are taking over our shores and the latest addition is Moonshot Cosmetics – did they live up to the hype?

With YG Entertainment K-Beauty brand Moonshot Cosmetics launching in Sephora stores islandwide this month, we had the pleasure of trying out a selection of their best skincare and makeup products. To see if they fulfilled their promise of fool-proof, quality beauty for the modern makeup lover, read on for our take on the baby beauty brand’s products below.

Water Remedy Skin Fuel Cream

Starting off with skincare, I followed up my usual toner with a pea-sized amount of this gel-textured moisturiser. I’m always used to skin oils because I like the feeling of heavily moisturised skin before I sleep, so I was ready to dislike this water-based product. However, to my surprise it was very pleasant to apply and felt great on the skin without being too drying. I used it generously in the daytime, since it’s of a thin consistency and allows plenty of layering without feeling like there’s too much product on the skin.

Multi Protection Skin Tint SPF 50+, PA+++

This tinted moisturiser is pretty sheer but unfortunately left a white cast on my face, so I only put it on if I knew I was going to have on a full face of foundation to mask the whitening effect. A little bit goes a long way with this, so I used it very sparingly. It leaves the skin feeling plump and will dry to a semi-matte finish after a while. So those with fairer skin tones will definitely be able to wear this on its own and head straight out the door in the mornings.

Skin Illuminator SPF 50+, PA+++

Since this is an illuminator I only dared to apply it down the centre of my face and tops of the cheekbones. Again, it left a white cast on me so a medium to full-coverage foundation following after was essential. It has almost an identical texture to the Skin Tint, so the only difference was that it had a brightening pink hue instead of a skin-like beige shade.

Flawless Perfection Liquid

This foundation was way too light for me, but I managed to try it on a model for a photo shoot and loved the results. I reckon it could be an alternative to the new MAC Studio Water Weight Foundation, since it has quite a runny consistency yet provides enough coverage to even out the skin tone perfectly and sets to a luminous, dewy finish. There aren’t any reflective particles in this so it’s great as an everyday face product, plus you don’t even have to cake it on your entire face. I applied this under the eyes, by the sides of the nose, around the mouth and on blemishes with a small dense buffing brush for a ‘no-makeup’ effect. I even applied this on the eyelids to hide any veins peeking through, and it concealed all the unwanted colour without creasing.

Cream Paint

This multi-functional lip and cheek product has moisturising properties and is in a creamy, gel-like texture. The large doe-foot applicator is of a convenient size to apply product to larger areas of the face, but doesn’t fare as well on the lips. It applies pretty tacky and can be blended out to dry to a powdery finish on the cheeks, but it comes off as patchy and uneven as a lip colour. The best way I could apply it on the lips was to dab it over a nude lip colour or with a clear balm.

Powder Duo in Minty Wind

These eyeshadows were both a hit and miss for me. I loved the pigmentation of the mint colour, but wasn’t too fond of the pearly white shade because of its dispersed reflecting particles, plus it wasn’t as pigmented as the other colour. The built-in mirror is great for on-the-go touch ups but I wish they had just one more darker shade in the palette to create definition in the eyes.
