We put this summer-friendly range from home-grown skin care label Porcelain to the test and give our verdict.

The heat is on on our little island and we’ve been looking for various ways to beat it. After covering summer fashion, hair styling tips and even heatproof makeup, we’ve been on the hunt for the best skincare regime and products to combat the soaring temperatures.

Homegrown brand Porcelain Aesthetics promises that their latest skin care range is the perfect weapon for your mission to combat the heat this summer. Founded by veteran aesthetician Jenny Teng, who is known for her expert extractions and after-sun facial care, we bet she knows a thing or two about keeping the skin clear in summer time.

Derived from natural plant extracts and even flora such as orchids (in conjunction with the inaugral 50th birthday of our nation), the range consists of paraben-free, sulphate-free, non-comedogenic products that ensure the gentlest treatment to all skin types. We decided to give it a try for ourselves to see if they live up to the hype.

Revive Natural Skin Refiner

Using this product reminded me so much of an anti-blackhead gel I used as a teen. It even worked in the same way, ‘curdling’ upon massaging the product into the skin, turning the gel into little white baubles that further aided the exfoliation process of dead skin cells. I love that this is a non-abrasive exfoliant, since it makes use of natural enzymes instead of harsh beads that may cause irritation to the skin. My skin is always left feeling fresh and supple after rinsing, and it makes for easier extraction of blackheads afterwards.

Revive Makeup Cleanser

This is my favourite product in the range. It replaced my trusty oil makeup remover mix (castor and olive oil) and is surprisingly pleasant to use with dry hands. The makeup comes right off with a few generous circular strokes, followed by a rinse and a second wash with my usual cleanser.

Balance Hydraclear Gel

I applied this directly onto a few blemishes that decided to make an appearance on my skin due to the recent wave of humidity. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it absorbed within minutes and didn’t leave any sticky residue. Religious usage for a few nights resulted in better control of my breakouts, so it’s a great product for the acne-prone.

Soothe Aloe Recovery Gel

This gel and its convenient little tube was great for those days when I was out in the sun for a little too long. Like the Hydraclear Gel, it also absorbs quickly and is such a quick, cooling relief from the outdoor heat. It’s definitely taking up a permanent space in my makeup bag!
