Could skincare replace makeup backstage at fashion shows?

The best no-makeup makeup looks to look out for are the ones at fashion week. With all the skin-focused beauty going on backstage, could we also be stashing away our eyeshadows, blushes and lipsticks?

There's no doubt that the no-makeup makeup look has increasingly been trending at fashion weeks. Sure, the bold and playful looks by Jeremy Scott, Diane Von Furstenberg and Mary Katrantzou pop up every now and then, but these days you'll find that many designers would rather opt for their collections to take centre stage, while makeup takes a back seat.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

It may have all started when Marc Jacobs did away with makeup altogether exactly a year ago for Spring 2015, and swore that only moisturiser was used on his models (granted, we don't buy it for a minute because makeup artists backstage were spotted with concealers in hand, but we'll let it slide). Since then, the 'nude' makeup looks that started from neutral eyeshadows and bronzed complexions slowly withered down to the bare minimum, focusing on messy yet defined eyebrows since the rise of Cara Delevigne, and the much-talked about strobing technique.

SKINCARE THE TOP MODEL WAY

This isn't to say that we have to let go of our favourite coloured makeup products like fun eyeshadows, luminous blushes and bold lipsticks. A good makeup look always begins with a great base, so we're all for healthy, glowing skin if it means everything that's laid on top will only look much better with proper skincare.

So ladies, let's all vow to slather ourselves in moisturiser every night and religiously go through our skincare routines as our favourite models do backstage before a show. Putting on a mask every time you put your makeup on may sound taxing in theory, but imagine sneaking in a cup of morning coffee and catching up on work e-mails while waiting for it to dry. Besides, your makeup will glide on so well afterwards you'll probably only need a few moments before you're ready to head out the door.
