Women often lament about applying makeup beautifully and as flawlessly as make up artists do. However, the age-old secret to applying makeup lies not in the tools but the canvas – specifically your skin.

The skin needs to be sufficiently prepped before makeup application and while there are primers and makeup bases around, Korean brand, Etude House, has come up with yet another craze.

We tried the Etude House Face Conditioning Cream just before applying makeup and here are our thoughts.

Marketed as a makeup boosting cream, the product aims to deliver a makeup ready complexion by conditioning the skin with its light and soft texture. The cream itself is an opaque white that feels a little heavy in consistency, akin to a moisturiser. However, upon application, the effect is a visibly brightened and even complexion without any unsightly white streaks. All you need is a small dollop for an even application.

After having it on, we applied makeup and were to curious to see if it would last longer than it usually does – without touchups of course. The result was a surprising treat that left us in awe. Not only did our makeup adhere better, there was less of a need to touch up during the day, other than a quick dab at perspiration.

We would recommend it for normal to oily combination skin as it works to mattify the skin to a small extent. The bevy of natural oils included, such as Argan, Olive and Coconut oil aids in providing sufficient nourishment, all while controlling excessive sebum levels.

Loaded with SPF25, you could replace sun block with this cream but we would rather not since extra protection from the sun is always a good call. The mild scent is a pleasant addition that leaves a good refreshing feeling on our faces.

If you’re gunning for the au natural look, then you could always have a go at applying this cream on its own for a dewy and supple finish.

Etude House Face Conditioning Cream (approx. USD16) is available at all Etude House outlets
