Are your loofahs and razors doing you more harm than good?
It may be time to toss that loofah or razor after all

Bath accessories are such life savers. Not only do they save you time in the shower and help to reach every nook and cranny, they help to ensure that you step out of the bathroom all clean and fresh. However these very accessories are capable of making you sick.
Let’s take everyone’s ride or die, loofah for example. A loofah is a great bath accessory as it helps you to lather up your favourite body wash. This allows it to be spread evenly on the body, ensuring a full cleanse. However using a germ infested, old (more than 2 months) or even your partner’s loofah could potentially do more harm than good for you skin. Loofahs are made abrasive for a reason. They trap the soap particles to ensure it can be distributed evenly while giving a scrub. However this very same abrasiveness traps bacteria and allows mold and germs to cultivate.
When using a loofah, we recommend shaking it out and letting it dry completely between usage. Soak the loofah in a container of bleach solution on a regular basis to kill off any potential germs and replace it every month. By doing so, you are preventing any occurrences of rashes or boils.
The same goes for the next popular bath accessory, razors. Disposable razors or cartridges should be replaced after 3-4 uses as a blunt razor can be easily infested with germs or turn rusty. When used, this may cause nicks and lead to potentially more serious complications such as blisters and scaring. After using your razor, clean it well and dry it before putting it away. This helps to prolong its shelf life.
Remember, it’s always safe than to be sorry.
