You are going to love this cat-inspired hair colour, also known as ecaille.

The new tortoiseshell hair has crowned famous celebrities like Blake Lively, Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, and Sarah Jessica Parker (no, you don’t have to be a Jessica to pull this off) and that should speak volumes.

The tortoiseshell-cat-inspired colour is a multidimensional dye, with warm reflections in some spots, especially around the face and on the tips, and a darker shade along the roots. It’s a cross between ombré and bayalage in the most natural sense, but with a darker undertone.

Who’s the best candidate?

“It’s an evolution of the tie and dye trend and it’s ideal especially for brown hair,” says Philippe Brun, technical director of Revlon Professional. “It can also be the first step for those who want to slowly ease into the full blonde look.”

Tortoiseshell will particularly flatter those with wavy tresses or subtle curls that will add dimension to the colour.

It may sound like a complicated hair colouring technique but thanks to the dark roots, you don’t have to return to the hairdresser too often!
