Singer-songwriter Ruth Ling is taking the local music scene by storm, one composition at a time.

Following up on our series of local talents, we present to you music extraordinaire Ruth Ling, a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music who currently holds a Masters degree in Contemporary Music Performance. Her music career took off when she decided to take part in the 1995 Singapore Children’s Society Songwriting Competition, in which she won 1st & 2nd place. She has not looked back since.

Ruth has performed at various live events, both in Singapore and in London, where she currently resides. She was the co-producer for the musical Fried Rice Paradise, and even toured with Stefanie Sun as her keyboardist in Las Vegas. In 2012, she launched her own record label, Red Roof Records, which she hopes will enable the local music scene to develop and grow.

The laidback, chill vibes of her music are infused with a hint of jazz, and are perfect to listen to while driving back home from work, or on a relaxed Sunday afternoon. Check out her original take of Christmas Never Ends, or her original Mandarin song 简单的爱 (Simple Love Song), and you’ll understand what we mean.

Though it seems that she has shifted her attention to music arrangement in recent years, we can definitely expect more of her work as a composer for events such as Singapore’s National Day, or as a pianist for famous artists like Angela Chang.
