Don’t risk your life for a million likes! The Russian government wants you to take a selfie without dying in the process.

It might seem like common sense not to take a selfie in front of the train, on top of the roof, or anywhere near a tiger, yet perhaps common sense is not so common after all – as seems to be the case in Russia where the government has issued a selfie safety guide for all citizens.

The campaign comes after more than 100 injuries and a number of selfie-related deaths. Some of which include a 21 year-old woman who accidentally shot herself in the head with a pistol while taking a selfie, a teenager who fell on the railway tracks while attempting to get the perfect shot and yet another woman who fell to her death while trying to take a picture at the edge of a bridge.

Indeed, it looks like people are ignoring their personal safety in favour of snapping that all important daredevil selfie in an attempt to garner more likes on social media. Hence the new campaign, which includes leaflets, a video and posters of advice on the ministry’s website. “A cool selfie could cost you your life,” the interior ministry warned and their campaign motto wisely tells everyone that “A million likes on social media is not worth risking your life and well-being”

So all you selfie addicts out there, it might do you good to click through the gallery and find out how to take a front-facing photo without killing yourself in the process!
