Kleenex experiment: Have people forgotten how to care?

updated the 14 July 2015 à 18:31

Kleenex proves to us how easy it is to show someone that you care, just by sharing your tissues. Clean ones that is.

Kleenex for you kleenex to share

Mother Teresa once said, “We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair and hopelessness is love.” Sometimes, it seems that we live in an individualist and uncaring world. Hence, it’s exceptionally heartwarming when others treat us with courtesy and consideration.

In a bid to prove the hypothesis, Kleenex centered its latest promotion on a social experiment that’s “designed to test the theory that a single act of sharing can in fact make a difference”.

To achieve this, the brand created a special pack of Kleenex tissues that can be divided into two parts – one for us and the other to share with any other person who has the sniffles.

The pack was distributed to passers-by in public places. After a couple of minutes, a hired actress hired armed with a hidden camera began sneezing in the vicinity – the sneezing was a ruse of course. Consequently, many of those who received the Kleenex pack were happy to offer their shareable part with the sniffly actress.

By conducting this experiment, the brand wanted to prove that sometimes people just need a little encouragement to act in the interests of others and share their unused Kleenex with strangers in need. As a result, everybody is happy; the person in need feels considered, while the person offering help feels better by performing a good deed.

As the tagline for this campaign says; “Share Kleenex tissues and show someone you care”. It’s really that simple.
