Aurora (Norway)
Live, this pale-haired Norwegian just freshly out of her teens is a force to be reckoned with. Her fantastical debut album, All My Demons Meet Me as a Friend, is lyrically introspective and thoughtful, and filled with euphoric pop moments.

She has performed live on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, played at renowned summer festivals like the Green Man Festival, and was also included on the FIFA2016 soundtrack.

Nao
Future-soul singer and songwriter Nao is definitely an act to watch. This year, her debut full-length album For All We Know, an R&B-tinged release, made waves both in the UK and US music scene.
She has performed for the iconic Glastonbury Festival, appeared on Disclosure's Caracal on the track 'Superego', and was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2015 MOBO Awards. With her distinct soulful sounds, Nao is definitely a Laneway act we cannot wait for.

Sam Rui makes it apparent that R&B is alive and kicking in sunny Singapore. This talented Singaporean singer went from singing folk and indie-pop tune covers on Youtube to writing her own R&B songs, lending brilliant sensuality and sass to her sounds and music.

Sampa the Great
South African-born but Australian-based Sampa the Great created ripples in the music scene with her debut The Great Mixtape in 2015. Her music is a powerful, artful combination of her natural musical style and thought-provoking, socially-conscious themes.
Her music ranges from spoken word to pure rapping, and has played sold out headline shows and festival slots at Golden Plains, Sugar Mountain, WOMAD & VIVID Live. This brilliant singer has won over many fans globally, and has also been chosen to support Kendrick Lamar and Thundercat on tour.

These brilliant and diverse women are set to light the stage in Laneway 2017.

The Singapore Laneway Festival, Singapore’s annual indie music festival, returns for its seventh year come January 2017, promising its usual exciting, diverse lineup of fresh indie sounds for your ears.

Particularly exciting about the lineup next year are its brilliant female acts from all over the globe; mesmerising in their vocals and beautifully diverse in ethnicity, sounds, and more. With women increasingly forging their way into the forefront (and potentially even the first female US President in the cards), we thought the timing could not be more ripe to celebrate women in music.

From twenty-year-old Aurora, a pale-haired Norwegian with her trademark quirky vocals and Björk-like synth-pop sound, to Nao who colours the stage with her feather-light, jazz-schooled vocals that oozes with mystery, charisma and edge, the diversity in the sounds stay true to Laneway’s commitment of constantly delivering fresh music and acts.
