The Air that I Breathe – The Hollies

“I love me some 80s rock music (yup, that’s usually Guns N’ Roses) but when it comes to love songs and ballads, the 70s rule! From ABBA to Elton John, the BEE GEES and of course Elvis – who wouldn’t feel the ‘peace and love’ which the ‘hippie’ decade promoted? So being the idealist drama queen that I am, I’d say The Hollies’ ‘The Air that I Breathe’ is on top of my love songs list. Maybe it’s those extremely dramatic lyrics which give me goosebumps or the great soothing melody – but this song is what I’d listen to on loop when I’m falling in love. It just makes me smile.”

Heart’s on Fire – Passenger

“We all know how love is this indescribable feeling that leaves you with a myriad of uncertainties but one thing is for sure, that you know you want to see the person you love. So the one song that resonates so well to this has to be Passenger’s Heart’s on Fire. From the alluring voice to the simple but meaningful lyrics, it’s a song that has my heart on fire.”

You & I (Nobody in the world) – John Legend

“John Legend knows all the right words to say to a girl. Even though his hit single ‘All of Me’ is more popular, I prefer You & I (Nobody in the world). It tells a girl that she’s the only one in the world for him, and that she looks beautiful no matter how many times she tries to ‘fix’ herself in front of the mirror. It’s such a perfect song.”

Make You Feel My Love – Adele

“My favourite love song of all time is Make You Feel My Love. Bob Dylan may have sung and written the song, but Adele’s version brought the house down. It’s a powerhouse ballad that I can imagine being played at my wedding in the near future. And I like how it is a love song that is not about heartbreak!”

Love Lost – The Temper Trap
“Love songs are not exactly my go-to genre when I’m in need of a musical escape because I’m so sick of love songs, so sad and slow – if you get what I mean. However, if i were to choose one, Love Lost will definitely be my pick. Dreamy, hypnotic, and lyrically hopeful, this track hits home without fail every single time.”

You’re the First, My Last, My Everything – Barry White

“The song I love to listen to more than any other when I’m in a loving mood is ‘You’re the First, My Last, My Everything’ by Barry White. It is romantic, sweet and so groovy! What more could I ask for?”

Crazy For You – Madonna

“I heard this song when I was 14 and it has been my favourite song ever since. I have to croon it at every single karaoke session, it’s a ritual.”

Kiss Me – Sixpence None the Richer

“The one song I listen to a couple of times a year and never fails to put me in a good mood since it depicts the purest, happiest kinda love, must be ‘Kiss Me’ by Sixpence None the Richer. Having gone through the 90s as a teenager I also can’t help but feel nostalgic over those days when school life seemed easier and where chick flicks were my obsession!”
