Flip through these illustrations by Greatist to see the evolution of beauty standards since 1910. Is your favourite Kate Moss’ coveted lean figure or Kim Kardashian’s voluptuous frame?

Wasp waists, prominent hips, flat chests, broad shoulders… You can list all your bodily attributes that displease you and you will find there was a point in time where each one of them was the fashion trend.

World-famous bombshell and America’s eternal sex icon, Marilyn Monroe, was a size 12. Then came along British supermodel and fashion icon, Twiggy, who stunned the world with her slender figure, boy cut and dreamy eyes. She was a size 0. Everybody decided skinny is the new sexy, until Kim Kardashian broke the internet with her sizeable hips. These infographics by American female magazine Greatist illustrate the “ideal” feminine silhouette and how the idea has been in a cycle since the 19th, 20th century.

We guess then it’s not just in fashion that “one day you’re in. And the next day, you’re out.” It’s the same case with silhouettes.
