This week we’re heading to a the quaint part of town with the shophouse-lined streets bustling with stores, bars and cafes.

Just a stone’s throw away from the bustling Chinatown lies the historic Telok Ayer district, which was originally the main area for settlement of the Chinese immigrant community in Singapore. Fun fact, the entire area beyond Telok Ayer Street essentially lies on reclaimed land.

Now, many years later, the elegantly restored shophouse-lined streets are an abode of quirky sartorial finds, fancy watering holes and cafes and restaurants for the self-professed foodies. For the sake of this guide we’ve included Ann Siang Hill, Club Street, Amoy Street and Erskine Road to represent the Telok Ayer district.

With our guide, you’ll find yourself maneuvering through charming alleyways as you discover quaint shops for a shopping escapade away from the malls, delectable bites at interesting cafes and if you head to Club Street at night on the weekend, the entire street turns into an outdoor bar lined with tables and chairs. How’s that for a change?

So why are you still cooped up at home? Head out and explore!
