Why: In 2015, Laneway Festival Singapore returns to the spacious pastures of The Meadow, Gardens By The Bay. An urban music experience like no other, Laneway Festival Singapore will continue to define itself with its A+ line-up, carnival-like atmosphere, amazing food and beverage stalls, and fun activity stations. And we cannot wait.

When: Saturday, 24th January; 7 - 10pm

Where: Aliwal Arts Centre, 28 Aliwal Street

Why: This event works towards uniting Hip Hop rap community in Singapore.The objective is tantamount to grow the Hip Hop rap community and attain more exposure for the artist artwork.

What: Art After Dark

When: Friday, 23rd January; 7 - 11pm

Where: Gillman Barracks, 9 Lock Road

Why: An outdoor party set against the new shows premiered by Gillman Barracks’ 17 international galleries, the Centre for Contemporary Art, Singapore and latest addition Platform Projects provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the enclave’s diverse art offerings.

Apart from the shows, there will also be artist talks, site-specific performance art, docent led tours, a chance to explore CCA’s artist residency studios, live music and food & drink pop-ups.

CHOPPA Experimental Music Festival
What: CHOPPA Experimental Music Festival

When: Thursday, 22nd January - Saturday, 24th January; 8 - 11pm

Where: Lasalle College of the Arts, 1 McNally Street

Why: Since 2007, this has been Singapore’s longest running experimental music institution showcasing local and international experimental music, keeping the underground alive and healthy in sultry Singapore. The CHOPPA Experimental Music Festival was held in 2008 and 2010, featuring musicians from Asia, Australia, Europe and the US.

Where: Blu Jaz Cafe, 11 Bali Lane

Why: Good Times is proud to present SENJATA SOUNDSYSTEM, a one-off party this Friday featuring Aresha, Escobar (Guerrilla), Nez, Darren Dubwise, David, Prema (H.O.G) and a bunch of semi-secret special guests.

Expect a mix of old school jungle, garage, drum and bass, dubstep and breaks from 9 till late.

What: The Local People X SAM Art Week Day Market

Where: Courtyard at Singapore Art Museum, 71 Bras Basah Road

Why: After heading to the big music festival in town, take this as a laid-back post-festival hang. Don't roll up those mats, instead bring them over, lay them out and catch a few winks while our acoustic acts perform. And come thirsty and hungry for food and handmade goodies.

Why: Rock up to the beach in your green and gold bathers this Australia Day! Celebrate with your best mates with heaps of coldie and bog in for some seaside barbie that’ll make you miss home.

Trust the music in the hands of our favourite OZ homeboys, DAVE DOES &DJ Modium to spin through the arvo, so good it will start a beach rage.

Either let your artistic flag fly or your music muscles groove this weekend but if that’s not your thing then party with ozzies for Australia Day!

St Jerome’s Laneway Festival may be the big musical gig happening this weekend but that’s not to say there’s nothing else to do. As Singapore Art Week goes into full swing, expect a whole slew of artistic activities to indulge in. From exhibitions to flea markets to lazing around at the courtyards of Singapore’s museums and of course celebrating Australia Day, it’ll definitely be a good break from the office eh!
