Always Moving: The Batik Art of Sarkasi Said Exhibit

Where: NUS Museum, National University of Singapore, 50 Kent Ridge Crescent, Singapore 119279

Why: Want to spend a quiet afternoon looking at beautiful batik artwork? Head on over to the NUS Museum to examine a display of 11 of Sarkasi Said’s best batik works spanning from the 1990s to the present. This exhibition also gives a bit of historical background on the artist’s rise to becoming one of the most celebrating batik artists of the region, and the symbolism, culture, and stories behind Sarkasi’s works of art.

Books Actually 24-Hour Bookstore
When: 8 – 9 June 2018

Where: BooksActually, 9 Yong Siak St, Singapore 168645

Why: Looking for a good book to read over the weekend? If so, head on over to BooksActually in Tiong Bahru to experience their annual 24-hour event including readings and book launches that will also culminate into a fundraising drive. Included in the line-up are local talents such as Cyril Wong, Alfian Sa’at, Ng Yi-Sheng, Verena Tay, and Crispin Rodrigue. Author and playwright Clara Chow will also be launching her book Modern Myths at the event while Cyril Wong will be relaunching his book, Like a Seed with its Singular Purpose. Singapore, Then and Now Art Exhibition
When: Until 30 July 2018

Where: Public Art Space (Level 2) at Pan Pacific Singapore

Why: Are you a history buff or an art connoisseur? In conjunction with the 25th anniversary of Very Special Arts Singapore, Pan Pacific Singapore and Very Special Arts Singapore will be hosting Singapore, Then and Now, a group art exhibition by three Singaporean artists from three different generations: Chang Kim Ngoh, Raymond Lau and Isabelle Lim. This exhibit will be the grand finale of the three art exhibitions that celebrate the empowerment of people with special needs through the arts and to encourage an inclusive society for them.

DFS Whiskey Festival
When: 8-9 June & 15-16 June 2018

Where: DFS, Singapore Changi Airport, Airport Blvd, Singapore 918142

Why: DFS, the world’s leading luxury travel retailer, is hosting the annual Whiskey Festival at Singapore Changi Airport. From now until June 17, head down to celebrate some of the world’s finest whiskies (including rare and limited-edition items) and have guided tastings with renowned wine experts! On 8 & 9 June, Darren Hosie, International Brand Ambassador for The Glenlivet will be leaded a guided tasting of the new The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve, and on 15 & 16 June, have a taste of the Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Sherry Cask Finish with Jeremy Lee, Brand Ambassador for Johnnie Walker! The Festival activities will take place at The Whiskey House, located in Terminal 2 (T2) and Terminal 4 (T4), at DFS Singapore, Changi Airport.

Little Havana Fiesta

Why: Havana ooh na na! Singapore’s famous Spanish tapas bar Esquina will be shutting down roads for their annual fiesta, Little Havana Fiesta this Sunday! The cuban-style party will be offering Bacardi cocktails (read: lots of mojitos!), and Cuban specialities like Ropa Vieja and Tortilla de Patatas. Eat and dance away your Sunday blues with the infectious Latin American house music!

Mexican Film Festival

Why: Get off your laptop and shop in real life at Carousell’s Creative Market this weekend! There will be over 30 vendors selling art and handicraft products, handmade wellness products, clothes, and home decor. They will also be offering floral jamming and leather-crafting workshops along the market.

Always Moving: The Batik Art of Sarkasi Said Exhibit

Whiskey, Art, Film — there’s just so much to do this week!

A long week of hard work is over, and now it’s time to treat yourself to some exciting events going on all over Singapore! If you’re looking for an immersive whiskey experience, make your way down for the highly-anticipated return of the DFS’ annual Whiskey Festival happening at Changi Airport. Or if watching stellar art house films is how you love spending your weekends, then The Projector is the place to be for the Mexican Film Festival. There’s also exhibitions for your picking, like the “Amek Gambar” exhibit at the Peranakan Museum, which showcases over 200 rare and early images of Peranakans; and the Singapore: Then and Now art exhibit at the Pan Pacific Singapore.
