Recognising the industry’s best, the 19th edition of the World Gourmet Series Awards of Excellence revealed the best in Singapore’s gastronomic scene last night.

The opening reception to kick start the 19th edition of the World Gourmet Summit was nothing short of spectacular, with guests being treated to gourmet food and fine wine. The gathering was also an opportunity to celebrate this year’s winners of Awards of Excellence in the culinary scene.

Lauded as the only national accolade to recognise the merits of F&B professionals and establishments in Singapore and in the region, the WGS Awards of Excellence has grown in scale over the years, from an initial 13 awards to the current 27.

It comes as no surprise that perennial favourites like Janice Wong of  2am: desertbar won Pastry Chef of the Year, while Singapore Chef Cherish Finden! was awarded The Macallan Lifetime Achievement Award. The multi-award winning Executive Pastry Chef is the crowning glory at The Langham, London. Other notable wins include: Javed Ahamad of Punjab Grill, (Vismark Asian Cuisine Chef of the Year), David Thompson of Nahm Bangkok (Tunglok Asian Cuisine Chef of the Year, Regional) and Joanne Yeong of Cake Crisis Central, winning Luzerne Pastry Chef of the Year.

This year’s awardees proved that the pastry scene in Asia has grown by leaps and bounds and it’s exciting to see what further innovations will come from the winners. Of course, the awards is but one of the highlights of the plethora of activities that have been lined up for this month-long gastronomic and wine extravaganza. Stay tuned as we’ll be keeping you posted on upcoming WGS events.
