You’re single, is it your fault?

When you are single at 35 years old, others will say it’s your fault! Let’s break the stereotype.

Not guilty but responsible for their situation, the singles have willingly missed the gate. Solo because of high expectations (by dint of eliminating all requirements – 1.80m in height, an engineer’s profile, etc); Solo because of school qualifications (with a third Greek-Latin major, it scares normal types); Solo because you’re a high income earner (it intimidates the average man); Solo because body size and type, height, looks, etc. Being single is still seen as wrong. If it lacks a man in the picture, it’s akin to a pot lacking its lid.

The idea that one can be alone by choice is not understood by many. And yet, others imply that singles have a good enough self-esteem to not cozy up to the first candidate that comes by. Wanting to keep your comfortable single lifestyle is not a sign of hatred towards men, but of an independent mind that’s quite remarkable. A certain solitude can also be desired after separation, so it is even often necessary to get reacquainted with oneself.

Soulmates? Of course you believe in them, but you’ve got eyes to see and you’re careful not to take the double of Polnareff for Prince Charming. Children? If you don’t plan on having them, there’s no need for others to rub salt into the wounds. You have your reasons. However, you don’t necessarily want whatever you plan. And being single, this is not a phase but a step. If you combine all our relationship periods (three years with Tom to four years full-time living with Jim), you’ll find that it totals over married life in all your civil unions or compared to your married friends.

So, on your sentimental CV you might also claim solid experience of modern family life. Though the only girl in the clique was a big jokester among her attached friends, where is the poor single that had it coming?
