If you’re looking for edgy jewellery that marries a brilliant concept with contemporary design then South Korean-based brand, Elyona is your answer.

When it comes to jewellery, like apparel, looking to the past can serve as quite the ideal canvas for inspiration since it fares much better to create timeless rather than trend-focused designs. Seoul-based jewellery label, Elyona is one prime example of doing just that by exploring themes of architecture, religion, costumes and classic novels. The name Elyona itself is derived from Hebrew – a biblical language – to mean ‘the highest, the best of best’.

Launched in 2010 as a luxury fashion jewellery brand, the designer, Leona Songhee Lee merges different cultural aspects with contemporary stylisations to create jewellery that is not only symbolic but transcends seasons. Her latest collection, ‘The First and the Last’ is inspired from Genesis, Revelation, and Chronicles of Narnia’s the Last Battle. These stories describe the universe’s purported creation, end and its very last moment.

By weaving these meaning-laden tales into her designs, Leona created a collection that incorporated sleek geometrical shapes to marry a serene calm with strength. We especially adore the beam earrings and the cuff that looks like branches moulded together – pair them with a simple outfit and you would still be turning heads down the street.

Essentially, the young designer’s conceptual take to jewellery has garnered her quite the sizable following that includes celebrities from the likes of Ellie Goulding, Amanda Seyfried and a host of other Asian celebrities like South Korean actresses, Park Shin Hye and Wang Ji Hye.

Judging from the looks of it, Leona has already taken over the discerning industry with her designs and we simply can’t wait to see what else she conjures up in that mind of hers.

Elyona is available at the following stockists.
