The local fashion designer will be planting his roots firmly into the historic civic district by launching his first shopfront with his latest SS15 collection.

On the grounds of the historic Capitol Building and Stamford House, a new shopping destination will be opening its doors next week. Re-named Capitol Piazza, the refurbished building will see a slew of stores – local and international – setting up base there and one of them includes Singaporean designer, Max Tan with his first stand-alone shopfront.

Max.Tan has been making waves ever since he launched his eponymous label, which is one that’s filled with androgynous and wildly conceptual designs. Largely focused on melding two opposing ends of a continuum – from reconstruction to deconstruction, minimal yet voluminised and masculine and feminine – the label’s aesthetics are experimental and yet yield a one-of-kind level of sophistication.

Last year at Digital Fashion Week, the 30 year-old designer had the grand honour of dressing Carmen Dell’Orefice, the oldest supermodel, as she walked down the runway at his show, garnering a huge standing ovation for the designer. However, his bow has been overflowing with strings even before that when he became the first Asia-based label invited to showcase at Modefabriek in Amsterdam 5 years ago. Additionally, his AW10 collection was also featured by Vogue Paris online and won second place at the China Fashion Creation Contest 2010.

Currently popular in Scandinavia (having shown at Copenhagen Fashion Week) and the Middle East for his designs, Max.Tan is stocked in stores as far as Norway, Sweden and Dubai. Well, now it’s time to find a footing back home. With the opening of his store, customers can expect to view the label’s full selection, including the latest Spring/ Summer 2015 collection. In addition to his own brand, Max.Tan will also be stocking other local brands such as womenswear label, YouYou and jewellery brand Mandy Wu, alongside Swedish-based brand, Odeur.

Being ardent fans of the label, this is one launch we can’t wait to see.

Max.Tan is located at 13 Stamford Road, #02-15 Capitol Piazza
