Brimming with strength, fragility and femininity, Singapore-based accessory label Mandy Wu is one tough act to follow.
Tough femininity – two words you may not necessarily see come together as frequently in the past as it appears to spring up now, in conversations, headlines and inspirations.
Similarly, Singapore-based accessory label, Mandy Wu carries an unapologetic design aesthetic, one that marries sensuality with strength to result in edgy jewellery you’ll want to wear everywhere – with your dresses, blazers and leather jackets. The self-taught designer came from a completely different background – one that involved chemical reactions and science labs – but eventually desired to unleash a different side to her with the launch of the eponymous label in 2011.
Largely influenced by themes of empowerment, courage and liberation, Wu is on a persistent drive to unmask the often overlooked tough side of femininity. As with her current collection, Collection No. 5, Mandy Wu seeks to bring the wearer on a journey of self-discovery by bringing the focus to freeing oneself from within. The selection of hardware-inspired rings, cuffs and earrings appear deceptively minimalistic but the refreshingly unadulterated pieces are also definitively bold, statement accessories.
With Mandy Wu on the block, Singapore clearly has more to offer now in the jewellery side of things. However if you require a little physical up-close evidence, then a quick skip over to KEEPERS on Orchard Green would do enough to convince you. Just remember to make space in your drawers before heading down though because you’ll definitely be making a purchase.
Steeped deep in emotions, Mandy Wu is one accessory label that we’ll be stalking for months to come.
