Rubin Singer showcases his latest collection as Audi unveils their latest A8 at this ‘Art of Progress’ themed night.

The annual Audi Fashion Festival in Singapore has officially started, and as usual it did so with a bang.

To kick off this week of local and international fashion, The Audi Red Carpet Night was held on May 13 at the Tent@Orchard at Ngee Ann City where all the shows are taking place this year.

Packed with glamour and high fashion – the night showcased New Your-based couture designer Rubin Singer’s latest collection which was in tune with the theme of this year’s event – The Art of Progress.

The designer’s Fall/Winter 2014 collection was unveiled for the first time during the gala and it was inspired by Santiago Calatrava’s El Puente de la Mujer Bridge in Buenos Aires. By using various mix of fabrics, hues of grey, silver and black and structured draping – Singer managed to capture the essence of Calatrava’s architecture as he imagined ‘a woman’s body being dipped during a tango in steel and concrete’.

The collection was bold and fresh, and ended with bridal dresses making a grande finale. We especially love the gorgeous structured dresses in metallic hues which transformed the models into silver statues. Avant-garde cuts, eye-catching fabrics (which were developed especially by the designer) and clever folding added a touch of unexpected edge to the otherwise minimal and elegant pieces.

Apart from the Fall/Winter 2014 collection, Rubin also showcased a few frocks from his SS14 line which was inspired by the  queens of ancient Egypt.

Although fashion was present in force, the event had other highlights – particularly the unveiling of the latest Audi A8 featuring exquisite craftsmanship and innovative technology. The car made a big entrance on stage and perhaps unsurprisingly fit in the fashionable crowd surrounding it. An epitome of elegance and sophistication, the car is now available at Audi showrooms in Singapore.

Other notable highlights from the night were the showcase of the three Audi Star Creation winners’ collections which ended by crowning Rebecca Corine Lam from Hong Kong who took home the additional Audi Young Designer Award and S$10,000 for embodying the spirit of Audi in her designs. Entertainment was also present with musical performances – namely opening with a musical serenade of Carmen Medley and Lakme Duet by The 7 Sopranos, and closing with and exclusive preview by the cast of the hit musical, Mama Mia, ahead of their debut in Singapore in November 2014.
