Coach unveiled their latest Spring 2015 collection at New York Fashion Week where they offered up quite the twist to what we’ve been used to seeing from the brand.

Coach held quite the reputation for being the classic all-American brand where designs were relatively elegant, polished and if we dare say, safe. This time round, or rather since Stuart Vevers took on the role as Creative Director last year, the brand has been introducing a quirky twist to its designs with this season being especially idiosyncratic.

With cartoon characters sprawling across tops and bags, bold leopard print coats, flared pants, pastel synthetic fur and platform clogs, it’s evident that Coach is taking a leaf from the 70s and at the same time celebrating various sub-cultures prominent in the States – from music to skating to surfing. Essentially, it’s a lineup that reveres the concert-goers or effortlessly cool skaters whose spunky attitude speak volumes for their style – some see them as misfits but Coach certainly saw them as glorious inspiration.

Debuted earlier this week at New York Fashion Week, the entire collection is built on contrasts between the familiar and the modern, streetwear and luxury and even between masculinity and femininity. So expect to see a little boyish charm and nostalgia brilliant peppered into the pieces.

Coming from Coach, the pieces are a refreshing change and while it may perplex the usual sophisticated Coach customer, who’s to say that they wouldn’t ditch their towering heels for a little clog-loafer action sometime soon?
