After 13 years of not presenting any couture collection, Yves Saint Laurent is set on making a brilliant comeback to the exclusive art with Hedi Slimane.

While some designers may be giving couture the goodbye handshake, others are returning to the age old art. Case in point – Saint Laurent, who last showed its couture collection 13 years ago is making a comeback to the scene under the creative vision of Hedi Slimane.

The couture atelier will be housed in the historic, ‘Hôtel de Sénecterre’, that took three years for restoration works and will include three floors – Salon Couture on the first and the Atelier Flou (dressmaking) and Atelier Tailleur (tailoring) on the second and third. In addition to the technical spaces, the building also boasts of a geometric garden and a selection of furniture and art. Of which the carefully sourced Age of Enlightenment chandelier, by Elizabeth Eyre de Lanux and a minimalist diptych commissioned art piece from artist Garth Weiser is a part of.

Now with Slimane on the helm, exclusivity is a given. In fact with couture, he’s set to take it up a notch higher. “Hedi determines which of these pieces will carry the ateliers hand-sewn couture label ‘Yves Saint Laurent’. These couture pieces may be women or men, a tuxedo or an evening gown, daywear or eveningwear. The “Yves Saint Laurent” private atelier label is made of ivory silk satin and is numbered by piece. The Ateliers keeps a strict record of all the couture pieces in a gold monogram book.” In addition, the label is only set to be for ‘friends of the house.’

So technically even if you had the monetary ability to purchase a couture piece, it may still not get you a Yves Saint Laurent couture dress. Well, at least we can all dream of the day we do establish friendly relations with Slimane but till then, take a gander at the brilliant first campaign from the couture house in the gallery above.

Monochrome has never looked this good.
