Take a look at how Singapore artist, Teresa Lim injects her quirky aesthetics to the Brazilian eco-friendly jelly shoes from Melissa.

Hands up if as kids, your hands were always covered in paint. A million arms are going up right now – just imagine a Hip Hop concert and you’ll get the magnitude of people guilty of hands in paint.

While we won’t be dipping our fingers in colourful puddles of paint this time, our paintbrushes will. The Brazilian eco-friendly shoe brand, Melissa, collaborated with local up and coming artist, Teresa Lim, better known as TeeTeeHeeHee for an an interactive DIY shoe customisation session. At the session, Teresa taught guests various ways to create bespoke designs on their very own pair of Melissa shoes using acrylic paint and embellishments.

Teresa’s quirky and vibrant aesthetic was a definite lock-and-key fit with the equally irreverent label as well. “Painting on plastic shoes was definitely a first for me, and it was fun and exciting to try on a new medium. I have been a fan of Melissa shoes for years, so it was really an honour collaborating with them for the workshop. I’m glad that I was able to share my passion for art and my love for shoes with fans of Melissa, “ said Teresa. At 25 years old, the young artist has worked with various international labels and has showcased her works across Asia, namely Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

While we can’t exactly purchase these customised shoes, we can nonetheless get a pair of Melissa shoes and put our own magical spin to it with acrylic paint. So if you’re looking for something to do over the weekend – why not DIY your shoes and make them truly yours?
