Even though we’re currently caught up with award season and fashion weeks across the big capitals, there’s a new fashion week in town that has us all jittery with excitement.

Singapore’s fashion scene is set to be propelled to greater heights with the birth of a whole new re-focused fashion week, Singapore Fashion Week (SFW) come 13 May. By partnering with the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), SFW seeks to carve out routes for Singapore fashion and designers to reach a much more wider and international pedestal.

The alliance with CFDA will also see two members attend and showcase their latest collections, one of which include CFDA president and iconic designer, Diane von Furstenburg, who will be headlining the event with her Fall 2015 collection. Additionally, her involvement with SFW will extend far beyond the runway as she will be part of a slew of industry talks and feedback sessions with fashion students, designers and industry professionals together with CFDA’s CEO, Steven Kolb, organised in partnership with LASALLE College of the Arts.

Notably, SFW also intends to launch Singapore designers on the international marketplace by having at least one designer stocked at retailers such as Barneys and Net-A-Porter by 2016. Hence, aside from the glamourous shows, tie-ups with key industry players like UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and global retailers will give SFW a greater trade and industry focus.

“We are grateful to all the media, partners and supporters of the fashion festival over the years for having given us the opportunity to build and grow the event to where it is today, where it will now come of age as Singapore Fashion Week,” said Ms. Tjin Lee, Chairman of SFW.

Replacing Audi Fashion Festival, we’re certain that Singapore Fashion Week will carry itself further with far more credibility and in all honesty, it is also a much more fitting name that serves the purpose of promoting Singapore fashion.

Now, as for that second CFDA member who’ll be showing at SFW, we’re placing our sartorial bets on 3.1 Philip Lim, Alexander Wang or Jason Wu – it just has to be either one of them!

Singapore Fashion Week will be held from 13 – 17 May 2015 at the Tent@Orchard, Ngee Ann City. Full details of the shows will be released in the coming months.
