On Pedder holds party to celebrate grand opening and Nicholas Kirkwood’s 10th anniversary.

Pedder on Scotts celebrated its grand opening along with Nicholas Kirkwood’s tenth anniversary where he created an exclusive collection just for the occasion.

The energetic collection was inspired by Kirkwood’s love of retro video games and action figures from the 80s. The designer reinterpreted moments from his youth and incorporated them into the designs for this collection. Handmade in Italy, the collection consists of 10 unique and creative styles. The shoes come in an exclusive packaging that resembles a collectible toy box rather than a shoebox. The boxes also come with “instructions” that contain brand and collection details.

With names like Millennium Butterfly, Back to the Sneaker and The Arcade, the shoes themselves pay homage to the biggest cultural icons of the 80s such as the Star Wars franchise and Pac-man.

“I wanted to celebrate 10 years of the brand with a collection that sums up many things for me and what I stand for,” said the designer Nicholas Kirkwood, “I wanted to experiment with graphicism in a, quite literally, playful way. “10” explores the concept of being ten years old again and the excitement of discovering something for the first time…growing up in the 80s, the culture of arcades, toys and films was the first I actively participated in, and it’s this energy I wanted to recreate!”

The theme carried over to the event, with arcade games such as Pac-Man, Foosball and Air Hockey

Singapore’s very own influential graphic designer Theseus Chan worked closely with Kirkwood on the graphics for this collection. Chan also worked with Japanese artist Masaho Anotani on the project “DEFORMED”, which was unveiled at the event.

The party was attended by the who’s who of Singaporean society, from Jade Seah to Velda Tan. Hong Kong DJ Simon Pang flew in specially to supply the cool tunes for the event.

So how about those Pac-Man heels for the keeps?
