New York Fashion Week Spring 2015: Our favourite looks from the Big Apple!

Delpozo SS15
The Madrid-based label served up a mean plate of sculptural forms and exquisite construction.

We were especially in awe of the clever play of proportions - although it may be tricky to pull off some of the exaggerated silhouettes. Nonetheless, the collection thereafter moved into a medley of more subtle and delicate looks - ideal for a rendezvous in Spain.

Jason Wu SS15
This season, Jason Wu sought solace in a couple of safe design moves. The collection opened with a beige-green brushstroke print that graced jackets, skirts and dresses - perhaps an updated intepretation of the military trend.

Beyond the dominant khaki shade, everything else was kept to neutrals, navy and black, other than the occsional burnt orange thrown in.
Skin was bared in more ways than one. From appropriately placed slits in skirts and dresses to plunging necklines and exposed backs, the drop of sex appeal was evident.

Thom Browne SS15
Thom Browne. This is probably the one designer we eagerly look forward to every season - just like kids do to a candy store.

Browne's genius and wit may have yielded seasons of seemingly unwearable forms of art but this season, this wit and creativity proved fruitful and entirely accessible - despite the excess.

Whether it was the pant suits or coats or dresses, what complemented the array of eccentricities were the impeccable hats by miliner, Stephan Jones.

Just when you thought that Thom Browne has exhausted all forms of artistry, he whips out a whole new brilliantly fluffed package.

Bibhu Mohapatra SS15
Akin to an optical illusion, the prominent print in Bibhu Mohapatra's designs was a mirage of multicoloured spots that glistened with movement.

All in all, it was an amalgamation of charming and ethereal looks contrasted with eclectic and fitted forms.

Lela Rose SS15
Lela Rose's interpretation of feminine numbers are constantly on point. The flounce, streamlined waists and A-line cuts are evidently perfect.

Strewn with Kimono-like floral prints in vibrant hues against a cream background, the array of fit-and-flare shapes, long gowns and structured peplum were a sublime treat to the eyes and for our upcoming spring wardrobes.

Libertine SS15
With Libertine it felt like all of one's favourite things were thrown or rolled into one meticulously placed design. From beads to patches to tassles, the selection here had all sorts of accoutrements and yet did not entirely give us a sore eye.

It was stuff that ravers in a music festival were made of - not Cochella but a rock and roll concert filled with 80s glam.

A playful take on fashion always has us reeling in delirious happiness - it's what makes these runways a delight afterall.

Peter Som SS15
It may not be entirely clear from the image but what stood front and centre at the Peter Som runway was the recurring rose floral print in shades of army green and white that eventually gave way to a multicoloured foliage.

Either way, the designs resembled a sophisticated summer beach look, where you could don the crop top and printed skirt number for drinks by the shore and switch out to the shimmering gold short suit for cocktails in the evening.

It's hard to vocalise what we didn't like from this lineup.

Alexander Wang SS15
A. Wang is from all directions, irrefutably, sportswear-inspired and proudly so.

This time round, the designer took iconic sneakers or sports shoes and dreamed up impressive fashionable re-incarnations in dresses and crop top-trouser combinations.

You might just spot the Nike flyknits in there.

Christian Siriano SS15
Straight out from an icy winterland, Christian Siriano offered quite the alluring alternative to summer's typical markup.

The varied shades of frigid blues and whites topped off with laser cut details brought to mind images of an icicle ridden cave. Yet the silhouettes and use of light diaphanous fabrics made the collection entirely wearable for the summer time.

Quite apparently, we were enthralled by the long fitted skirt in white and of course the baby blue trouser combination - love!

Prabal Gurung SS15
To put it honestly, this may not be Prabal's strongest collection to date - something was undeniable amiss.
Fortuntely, the second half of the show was a true savior thanks to the sleek cut trousers and light knit sweaters. Alongside those were the adundantly ruffled dresses with a slash cut across the bodice - elegant yet provocative.

NYFW came to a close and we dutifully rounded up our favourite looks – From Thom Browne to Prabal Gurung and the sporty Alexander Wang.

The first leg of the fashion industry’s bi-annual month long marathon came to a resounding close with Calvin Klein. After a week-long of shows that were about an hour apart from each other, it’s time to take a real short breather and allow the array of prints, fabrics, colours and quirk to sink in.

At New York Fashion Week, the looks that reigned supreme were all reminiscent of sportswear – a theme that seems to be central to the city-centre for a few seasons now. Beyond that, while some designers delivered collections brimming with conventional Spring Summer colours or details, others shied away from the norm to unveil a more sombre but essentially timeless selection.

Whether it was Thom Browne’s unmistakable whimsical vision or Jason Wu’s sublime construction, these were the looks that got our hearts racing and pining for the year to end sooner.
