Children express their creativity with crayons but in the hands of designers, the crayon is elevated to the next level.

For its spring 2015 window display, the famous New York fashion store Bloomingdale’s teamed up with the well-known crayon brand Crayola and collaborated with six top designers. As a result, designers including Rebecca Minkoff, Rebecca Taylor, Parker, Ronny Kobo and Clover Canyon among others, took inspiration from their favourite Crayola crayons and came up with gorgeous and unbelievable dresses, made from about 18,000 crayons in total.

Unsurprisingly, the collection features elaborate and colourful pieces, such as the “Unmellow Yellow” dress by Nanette Lepore featuring a bustier ornate with a series crayons that looks like a 3D star exploding; the “Jungle green” jumper by Parker with a top made only from crayon wrappers; or the “Bittersweet” dress by Ronny Kobo displaying Crayola’s cut ends as textural polka dots.

Led by the photographer Matthew Carasella, all the works of art created exclusively for the “100% Bloomingdale’s collection” are on display at the iconic store on the 59th street in Manhattan.

As unusual as they might sound, take a look at the high-fun Crayola fashion designs in the gallery above.
