If you ask: What’s the busiest Asian city at the moment when it comes to fashion? The answer has to be Shanghai.

Playing host to some of the continent’s biggest events in the industry, the Chinese city has lately witnessed yet another grand opening.

This time, Shanghai Tang, the Chinese luxury lifestyle brand has opened its largest flagship store in the world – in Shanghai.

The location? It has selected the iconic 1930s Art Deco Cathay Mansion, on Maoming Road, as its new home. The historical meaning binding Shanghai Tang and the location is the fact that the Shanghainese tailoring atelier first started on Maoming Road itself, where tailoring was a bustling business during the 1930s. This is where you could find dress makers, chic hat stores and sought after tailors, right in the middle of the French Municipality within Shanghai.

The opening follows an extensive refurbishing of the 80-year-old theatre and restoring of the facade to turn the theatre into a majestic shopping arena.

Celebrities like actress Sun Li, actor Hu Bing, Miss Universe China ‘12 Dina Xu and Miss Universe China ’13 contestants (photos below) were all attending and supporting the opening by wearing pieces from Shanghai Tang’s FW13 Collection.

Shanghai Tang is available at the following stockists and online.
