This season’s vast range of eccentric high heels left us spoilt for choice. Here are some of our favourite styles of every woman’s essential foot candy…

Amongst the numerous marvels to wear and stare at under Fall 2013’s footwear, the high heel population is the winning majority. While flats and mid-heels are our to-go-to styles for comfort, high heels remain the shoe of choice for when we want to dazzle – or feel a little more empowered and tall.

Nothing works its magic onto a woman’s silhouette quite as effectively as a pair of vertigo-inducing high heels, correctly worn and elegantly walked in. The “cou de pied” (From French: neck of the foot) assumes a hyper-arched shape, typical of elegant ballet dancers, the leg muscles appear elongated and slimmer, the buttocks are seemingly lifted and toned and the overall posture makes you feel like you own the world; and if you don’t own it yet, you feel like you will do soon!

If this is the feeling you’re looking for, you must grab a pair of pumps from the usual lateral thinking suspects: Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana. They went all out in terms of flamboyant footwear, by including vines, roses, plumage and pearls to their amazing creations.

Alternatively, if the price tag results too heavy on the wallet, you can shy away from bespoke models and scout for styles made of extravagant materials instead. These styles incorporate traditional leather, polished leather, buckles and laces while introducing more imaginative jewelled straps, wool and knitwear that rise up above the ankle or all the way under the shoe’s sole.

Thigh-high and knee-high boots are the next best option. These also break the norm with quirky designs and cut-outs that sometimes open up to disclose part of the foot or the back of the knee.

In general terms, creativity has been running wild on a fairly restrictive seasonal palette, with the exception of the fully printed shoe, which can be covered in cheerful prints or motifs from tip to heel cap.

In the words of ex Spice Girls diva-turned-Fashion Designer Victoria Beckham:

“If you haven’t got it. Fake it!

Too short? Wear big high heels, but do practice walking!” [V.B.]
