This year, when it comes to fit, we say bigger is definitely better! Here’s how to rock the oversized trend without drowning in it…

For a few seasons it’s been rising and rising… the madness of over-sized cut!

Initially, the idea  was borrowed from wearing ‘our man’s’ clothes in a casual style, but it has since become a trend in its own right – in a sophisticated graphical mode among many designers.

Oversized coats of course, but also pants, dresses, sweaters and shirts; No piece passes clings to our skin. And that’s good because although your opinions are divided on the issue, the Marie France Asia editorial team loves this look which an oversized coat gives us, provided of course it does not fall into the ‘too much’ and drown us!

A few tips to wear the trend:

Always mix!

Yes the pants are big, but team them with a short and sexy top to balance the look out.

With an oversized coat, avoid the maxi scarf and got for a small scarf tied around the neck.

The maxi-shirt with the pencil skirt is also a good combination.

Don’t think that this trend is reserved for the tall!

Oversized does not necessarily mean long! A voluminous short coat worn with heels looks super feminine on all heights and sizes.

Do not confuse oversized and camouflage!

Yes, this is a comfortable trend that allows you to hide a small belly and not feel all stubby, but it is not a reason to don shapeless clothes and understanding the cut and volume is very important.

Choose well cut pieces in premium materials. Focus on quality.

Do not buy the menswear pieces either, they do not fall in the same way and they’re labelled ‘menswear’ for a reason!

The oversized dress can also look sexy. So does a sweater that bares one shoulder.

The masters of the oversized aesthetics are Maison Martin Margiela, Celine, Max Mara and Rochas.
