Flirtatious yet grounded by minimalism for a chic and elegant look – Here’s how to nail this tricky peek-a-boo trend.

From LBDs to shirt dresses, it is clear that here at Marie France Asia we are big on portraying the understated elegant woman. Don’t you think? However, we’ve been playing it safe long enough and we decided it’s time to be a little more adventurous with our choices. To add on to our repertoire of effortlessly stylish trends, we reveal the latest trend that we’ve fallen in love with – sheer panelling.

The sheer panels subtly infuse a tinge of playfulness with an ounce of seriousness – when the garment is kept to a minimal – which is perfect for the sophisticated, yet mildly flirtatious ladies. As sensous as the sheers might be, it is a tricky trend to take on as it borders on the fine line of being cheap or chic. The key to nailing the sheer panels is to not reveal too much, but reveal just enough. Not too much to cheapen your look, but just enough to keep the mind wandering.

Here’s how we suggest styling it:

In clothes

The lingerie: We say, leather bralets for an edge, or a simple bandeau bra for a sporty chic look – you know, for the shy types. Whatever it is, steer clear from donning your lace lingerie beneath those sheer panels if you do not want to be caught by the fashion police and charged for being distasteful. You have been warned!

The details Sheer panels’ versatility know no bounds, thanks to the creative minds of Erdem, Prabal Gurung and Christopher Kane. From typical horizontal sheers to dropped-waist sheers for the illusion of floating hemlines and varying opaque material used which range from lace, neoprint to brocade, we however, still prefer associating sheer panels with minimalism.

The shoes If you’re a shoeaholic just like us, don’t be surprised if you begin to see your wardrobe gravitating towards sheer panels as you give in to the seduction of letting your shoes take centre stage. With the minimal look that ever so often accompanies  the sensous sheers, this is the perfect trend for you to work those Louboutins. Go bold with your footwear and play around those metallic flats or printed heels – we’re still feeling that love-ly (pun intended) Charlotte Olympia pumps. Or if you’d rather play it safe – and miss out on all the fun – you’ll never go wrong with a pair of minimalist strappy heels.

The jewellery Though embellished jewellery might seem like a viable option as a contrast, we’d prefer a cleaner, more organic look at the top to preserve the subtle elegance of the sheer panels. Some simple ear studs, and midi rings will do – because mother always said, less is more.

The bag To follow through the casual chic vibe of sheer  panels, opt for crush bags for its lighthearted aura and ability to look effortlessly stylish that is complimented with a playful edge. When talking about slouchy shapes, Lanvin‘s paper bag most certainly cannot be left out of the equation as well. Très chic!

Now, are you ready to play a little game of skin hide-and-seek?
