Coco Crush: Chanel’s latest fine jewellery collection
updated the 6 October 2015 à 23:08Brace yourselves for a new classic, ladies! Chanel’s latest collection of quilted fine jewellery is a stunner.
So much praise can be said about the venerable Coco Chanel and her eponymous label. Arguably the most influential designer of all time, Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel revolutionized fashion for women. She single-handedly popularized trousers and suits for women, the LBD, and she gifted us with the celebrated 2.55 quilted shoulder bag (named after its original launch date in February 1955).
The quilting, or ‘matelasse‘, reflects Coco’s love for riding from her younger days. Back then, quilted materials were exclusively seen on horse saddles. Now, the motif has become so iconic you can’t help but think of Chanel’s handbags, the same ones that have become a staple accessory for discerning fashionistas worldwide.
This coming May will go down in history, as it is the month Chanel launches another staple accessory; or even, a new classic after the 2.55: Coco Crush. Now it wouldn’t be a classic unless it bears Chanel’s iconic quilts, would it? The limited-edition, six-piece fine jewellery collection comprises five rings and a cuff in 18-carat white and yellow gold – all finely engraved with the matelasse motif.
Although the chunky accessories of Coco Crush depart from Chanel’s previous array of highly ornate jewellery, they still capture the spirit of Mademoiselle Coco herself: timeless and modern. In fact, it’s by keeping this crucial identity in mind that garnered Karl Lagerfeld success in reinventing the brand since his attachment in 1983 — think 2.55 Reissued, the Boy bag, tweed ensembles and now, Coco Crush.
