A smart handbag to stop you from overspending

You might have heard about that Google mail feature which prevents you from sending ‘drunk mail’ to a specific’ person (an ex boyfriend for example) by asking you to solve a simple math problem to make sure you are sober enough to do so. Here is another new piece of technology designed for those of us who can’t help overspending. Arduino, an Australian company, owner of the Creditcardfinder website, developed a high-tech handbag aimed at helping you control your shopping addiction. How does it work? The iBag looks like any women’s handbag, but it has built-in electronic components such as a radio sensor, a GPS tracker and LED lights. It uses radio frequency identification technology to monitor your credit card transactions. This smart handbag can be programmed to stop you from making a purchase by locking itself up automatically during the times of the days when you are most likely vulnerable to spend. Equipped with a GPS chip and LED lights, the bag lights up with a warning signal as soon as you enter your favourite shopping zone. If you decide to ignore it and keep shopping, it will send text messages to your nominated “responsible other” (boyfriend, husband, friend or parent) to let them know you have had a spending relapse. Interested? You can register to pre-order an iBag on the website for $199. The company says if there is enough interest, they will go into production. The paradox: You will have to spend $199 to control your spending… Lindsay Poui-Di Watch the video :
