As we are heavily surrounded by pollution issues these days, it has become a common sight to see people wearing face masks wherever we go. From the seasonal haze in Singapore to the the polluted air in Paris or Peking, surgical masks might help us stay protected but nonetheless leaves us looking like we’ve come down with the bird flu – not a good look when walking in the street or around the subway.
Luckily for us, a Brooklyn-based start-up “hypochondriacs for style conscious germaphobes” has developed the Scough, a stylish scarf, designed from the same materials used by the Ministry of Defense to filter pollution and defend us against germs. “There is real science, done by serious lab coat wearing folks, who created this technology for modern warfare. We just were clever enough to make it look nice, soft and adapt it to your daily grind,” explain the founders of Scough.
How does the scough work?
The scough features an activated carbon filter impregnated with silver that creates a mini-microclimate of freshened air that filters out , neutralizes and kills viruses before we breathe them in. If the filter is well maintained in a clean resealable plastic bag – as the Scough team recommends – it can last about three months. But the start-up wants to be clear saying: “While we can’t guarantee the Scough will keep you from getting sick, it will definitely increase your chances of staying healthy and warm.”
If you are interested in staying healthy while looking fashionable, you can order the Scough here.
