There are more than enough ways to wear sequins under the sun without looking outlandish. Here are our tips.

Sequins are synonymous to late-night glamour and festivity, but not so much for daytime excursions. In other words, wearing our little sparkly friends under the sun is a hit-or-miss affair.

You might appear overdressed, attract unwanted attention and become a walking fashion faux pas.

To all sequin lovers out there, fret not, because there are ways to work around sequin’s bad blood with daylight and we’ve got them compiled below:

1. Don’t overwhelm yourself

Despite the alluring glitz of sequins, it’s wise to limit yourself to a one sequinned piece. If you’re donning on a sequinned top, then don’t wear sequinned bottoms and vice versa. Even for Dior and its Fall 2015 runway, the only thing sequinned on the models were the collars.

2. Don’t cover up

We reckon it’s best to go easy on the makeup. You don’t want to look like a stage performer who got lost in the streets of Singapore!

3. Cover up

An outerwear is always a good way to tone down your sequins. Opt for black blazers, trench coats, cardigans, basically any basics to balance all the glitter.

4. Pair with denim

Another good way to go casual is by pairing sequins with blue denim, be it jeans, a skirt or a jacket.

5. Accessorize less

Coco Chanel once said, “Before leaving the house, a lady should look in the mirror and remove one accessory.” Remember this when you’re stepping out in the sun clad in sequins.

In case you haven’t noticed, these five simple tips basically aim for one thing: dressing down your sequins. Also, our gallery has some streetstyle, runway snapshot and shopping ideas for your inspiration. Now you won’t have an excuse but to rock your sequins, day or night!
