The first two days of Singapore Fashion Week 2013 open with Denim, Black and Romanticism. Here’s our round-up of the women’s pret-a-porter shows.

Opening Shows: Denim Rampage

Pierre Balmain and Bread & Butter opened the stage for Singapore Fashion Week 2013 on Wednesday Oct 9.

With the exception of one gold and one black sheer evening dress, Pierre Balmain showed a collection of casual and smart casual outfits. It was highly monochrome and with little prints, limited to black and white geometrical diamonds, vertical stripes or blotchy paint strokes.

Bread & Butter had a more varied palette of reds, denim blue and subtle small prints. The look was urban and targeting a youthful crowd. Plenty of denim was used for jackets, tops and bottoms. Footwear was kept comfortable and in line with the urban tone of the clothing and it consisted mainly of ankle boots and trainers.

Black and Burgundy Agents

Which colour would you like this in Sir, Madam?

It comes in black, black and… bear with me for a second.. well, burgundy!

Porsche Design was tinted mirror aviators, tightly tailored leather black dresses with double zips running circular around the waistline, leather black trousers and leather black gloves, along with formal bags and solid footwear. The runway was made into a “mission impossible goes to the Alps” short movie.

Our overall impression in two words? Sleek and stern.

Romance on the runway

Sheer, feather-like fabrics with brushed up lighter-than-feather threads; nude games on delicately embroidered tops; frills in “queen pink”, red and black.

We would love one of each of Anne Fontaine’s evening dresses for a romantic night out. She transformed the runway straight after the stern look of Porsche Design and immersed the spectators in tender romance and champagne bubbles.

To complete the extremely feminine pieces created out of monochrome tones, grab a pair of black high-heeled strappy sandals.
