From Babi Pongteh to durian-based desserts, tantalise your taste buds with the wide variety of Asian delicacies on offer at Edge’s all you can eat buffet

What better way to celebrate Singapore’s 50 years than to launch a new buffet spread that celebrates Asian cuisine in all its glory? That’s the concept behind Makan Makan at Edge Pan Pacific. The Saturday lunch buffet has gotten an upgrade with delicious new Peranakan dishes added to the offerings and like the dedicated foodies we are, we had to check out (and try out!) the food on offer.

With seven food theatres showcasing a variety of freshly-made Asian and Pacific cuisines, (Malay, Chinese, Indian, Thai and Japanese) this is truly one of Singapore’s more generous and diverse buffet spreads to date. We worked our way from nasi lemak, a coconut rice dish with nuts, anchovies and sambal to the world famous Malaysian Hokkien mee, which is essentially thick black noodles drowning in soy sauce and garnished with fresh, juicy prawns. Having relished that, we moved on to the satay – duck, beef, chicken and mutton were on offer and they were all tender, succulent and bursting with meaty flavour.

Then, we decided to sample the new Peranakan dishes on offer. The not-to-be-missed culinary stars were the Babi Pongteh, a juicy braised pork flavoured with fermented soya beans, Ngo Hiang, spiced lobster, prawns and chestnuts encased in the crispy skin of beancurd, as well as Traditional Peranakan Chicken Curry served with freshly-baked French Baguette. All three dishes were the epitome of delicious as far as we’re concerned.

Our epicurean journey ended on a sweet note with a variety of local desserts, ranging from the savoury yam paste with gingko nuts to the refreshing ice kacang, a local dessert of shaved ice mixed with red beans, corn and sweet coloured syrup. Durian lovers will be pleased at the wide selection of durian-based desserts such as durian puff, durian mousse cake and durian pengat. Our sweet tooth certainly got more than it bargained for at this buffet!

We emerged with full bellies and a clear new favourite in the buffet stakes. Go through the gallery for a visual taste of the delicious food on offer and get ready to make your buffet bookings this Saturday, just in time for Labour Day weekend!
