Although this list is organized in no particular order, we thought it necessary to put this first on the list, because it is one of the only bars in a popular part of town that stays open all night and screens both the 12am matches as well as the 3am matches. Alcohol is served all night, except between 3am-6am and food is served throughout the night – how amazing is that? To convince you further, they make a mean margarita and alcohol is very reasonably priced! If you plan on pulling an all-nighter and need the right amount of fuel in the form of food, alcohol and friendly staff – look no further.

Paulaner Bräuhaus
Nothing says Bavarian beer, bites and Fußball better than this Brauhaus branch, situated in the heart of Clarke Quay. Do it like a true blue Singaporean and get there well on time though, or you’ll find yourself fighting for a good seat. The excitable ambience is, however, a reason to stay and join in the fun, whether or not you have to stand throughout the ehole game.

Indochine @ Forbidden City
If you want yet another option to enjoy the game in the most popular nightspot in town, Clarke Quay, here's another one. With amazing Budweiser bucket deals (S$35 net), this makes for a very, very good option. If it’s the weekend, you can even go party it up after to celebrate your team's win!

Harry’s at the Esplanade
Watch the match from either indoors or outdoors, against the backdrop of the bay. Knock back a few affordable brews, have some good bar food and enjoy the game! Simple as that.

The Hard Rock Cafe
Hard Rock isn’t just the ideal place for listening to good music and enjoying a delicious burger or steak. It’s also ideal for watching the games. The café screens all midnight matches and will be screening all the semi-final and final matches on a big screen. You can also look forward to a Brazilian night, happening on the 5^th of July from 9:30pm to 3am. So in the true celebratory spirit, Viva la Brasil!

The Penny Black
A popular haunt in Boat Quay, The Penny Black is not to be left behind in the great World Cup bars equation. All midnight games are screened here, unless otherwise stated on their facebook page (i.e. closed for private functions). An exciting thing to look forward to – the bar is readying itself to show the first matches on multiple screens, complete with full surround sound. A world cup raffle will take place too and world cup t-shirts will soon be up for sale!

Wine BOS
A nice little find, tucked away in a corner on North Bridge Road and the beginning of Jalan Klapa, this wine bar screens the first (midnight) match every night. Enjoy Sangrias and house pour wines within S$10 or a pint of Tiger or Heineken for S$14, along with some great tapas options. The bar, which proudly displays its multitude of flags from around the world, isn’t overly packed but we would advise getting there by 11pm so you can reserve a nice little table or couch for you and your friends and not have to stand awkwardly in a corner.

Beer Market
One of our favourite casual beer and food joints, made more appealing with its stock market concept, Beer Market is another highly recommended bar to watch the games at. They screen every midnight match and on select nights (based on how big the game is), they screen the 3am matches as well. You can leave work and start getting yourself revved up for the game from earlier in the night with their happy hour deals from 6 to 8pm.

Apart from being the most expensive country to live in, Singapore is quite possibly the most expensive country to watch the FIFA World Cup 2014 as well – that is if you plan on watching the matches on the couch.

Apart from costing a decent amount to get a cable subscription, watching the games at home lacks the spirit needed to fully enjoy this experience. What we need is an environment of palpable energy created by the cheers and grunts of fellow football fans, along with the added incentive of very decently (for Singapore standards) priced pints, house pours and finger food.

That’s exactly why we have spent the last few days, scouring the streets in the wee hours for the ideal spots to sit back, get pumped up and knock back a beer or two with friends and cheer your favourite countries on.

Yes, even the fact most games start at 3am in local timing, does not put us off!
