Celebrate a harvest of flavours during the festival of lights with our round up of food places to dine at.

Deepavali is around the corner and as always Little India is beautifully decorated with grand decor. Contrary to popular belief, the festival of lights is not equivalent to the Hindu or Tamil New Year. Instead it is one of the many festivals that North and South Indians celebrate. The festival is more commonly referred to as Deepavali in South India while in North India, the festival is usually referred to as Diwali.

During this festive season, roads in Little India are decorated with many colourful and bright lights. You’ll notice traditional activities and cultural shows taking place alongside the main bazaar – that features all things festive from traditional clothing and oil lamps to fresh flowers and henna art. However, the one thing we absolutely cannot forget from the occasion is the delicious array of food, ranging from small bites to Indian cuisine.

This Deepavali, there are many food options to look forward to. From North to South Indian cuisine, expect a line up of traditional and fusion dishes. Take for example the Deepavali Lunch and Dinner Buffet at the Grand Hyatt. Straits Kitchen is offering a special festive menu alongside their other local dishes. Choose from North and South Indian specialties such as naans, rotis, curries and even dum briyani. For the vegetarians, indulge in the paneer beetroot chat (homemade cottage cheese with beetroot and herbs). Finally, end your buffet on a sweet note with traditional Indian desserts.

For more mouthwatering options this Deepavali, head over to the gallery up top for a round up of our recommended places to dine with your loved ones. Trust us you’ll be down with a food coma by the end of it.
