The popular Taiwanese dessert café dazzles us with their monstrous, Shibuya-style honey toasts and savoury offerings.

By now you already recognize the drool-worthy signature honey toasts generously smothered with ice cream that’s been flooding your Instagram feeds. Ever since its soft launch back in April, Dazzling Café has been the café du jour amongst the Singaporean café-hopping set. If not for its aesthetically pleasing Tiffany blue interior, then certainly for its artfully presented honey toasts. Naturally, we had to get in line to see what all the fuss was about.

Located in the spanking new Capitol Piazza, the outlet is the popular Taiwanese dessert chain’s first flagship café in Singapore. While the café serves savoury dishes, the main draw is undoubtedly their signature honey toast desserts, which is a sinful sugar bomb of fruits, whipped cream, chocolate sauce, ice cream and other decadent delights perched atop an impressive block of toasted bread.

Our first thought when we were served our honey toasts was: How do we eat them without destroying these works of art? The Mango and Coconut Honey Toast arrived dripping in mango sauce, garnished with a scoop of creamy coconut ice cream, fresh mango cubes and served with a small jar of honey. A light and refreshing treat for those who want dessert without the guilt trip.

If you’re looking for an Instagram-worthy one, then the Hazelnut Chocolate Honey Toast is your best bet. This one’s a mouth-watering crispy tower topped with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and strawberries. When cut open, (which is what the waitress will do after you’re done taking photos) the 'tower' reveals itself as a hollow filled with small cubes of toast filled with Nutella. It tastes exactly as you’d expect something toasted with Nutella to taste – delightful, decadent and delicious.

On the savoury side of things, we sampled the Spicy Seafood Tomyam Tomato Spaghetti which is a Singapore exclusive. We loved the tom yam spin off on this dish which makes for a tangy plate of spaghetti but spicy it hardly is – unless your threshold for fiery foods is very low. Truffle fans will definitely find the Black Truffle and Wild Mushroom Spaghetti to be an indulgent experience that hits all the right notes – with the shaved truffle bits and truffle oil adding the right amount of flavour to the dish without overwhelming it altogether.

We didn’t get to try everything on the menu, especially the popular Matcha Honey Toast but from the looks of it, this certainly won’t be our last venture to the café.

After all, there’s always room for dessert.

Dazzling Café is located at #01-85, Capitol Piazza, 15 Stamford Road.
